| On Saturday, July 19, 2003,
I heard a story on NPR about Debbie Fagan, a resident of Summerhaven, AZ,
who's home and business were turned to ash by the Aspen fire. During the
interview, which occurred the first time the residents were allowed to return
- after a month of being evacuated - to what was left of their homes, Debbie
Fagan said she was mostly upset by the loss of her glass bead collection.
The article on the MSNBC
web site states she had 350,000 beads in barrels behind her home. These
were turned into a congealed mass of color. In the NPR interview, she talked
about her collection of glass art beads in plastic boxes. These were also
turned into a single mass of glass and plastic.
