Prep:

Drag out two lines of reduction frit next to each other on your marvering pad. I used Iris Gold and Silver Green, but amber trans and dark teal trans granulated glass will also look similar.

Pull Some Stringers (1mm to 2mm):

  • White
  • Clear
  • Transparent Cobalt
  • Transparent Aquamarine
  • Transparent Pale Aquamarine
  • Transparent Medium Aquamarine
  • Transparent Teal
  • Transparent Medium Blue
  • Transparent whatever you'd like to add...
  • Place a piece of clear backed dichroic on your torch-top pad or hot plate, to pre-heat.

    Make the Bead

(this is really an exercise in stream of consciousness beadmaking - no real organization):
    1. Make a smallish bi-conal shaped bead with white (mine is 1 3/8" or 34 mm)
    2. Roll one end in the reduction frit so that you have the gold frit at the bottom (sand), green frit (plantlife) above
    3. Melt frit in
    4. Randomly melt the dichroic onto the white - clear side up
    5. Randomly paint with the stringers to your heart's delight to make your sky
    6. Place a white dot somewhere on the cobalt for the moon. Melt in.
    7. If you like the crescent moon, place a trans cobalt dot on the white, off to the side of the white dot, melt in
    8. Do final shaping (Recommended read for shaping: Smircich's booklet by Jim Kervin.)
    9. Anneal and wait
    10. Remove the bead from the kiln and marvel at the wonders of your own artistic talents!
